Obituary of David McClelland

David McClelland, 56, of Waukegan, Illinois made his transition to his heavenly home on Wednesday, June 16, 2010. He was born November 17, 1953 in El Dorado, Arkansas to the union of Roosevelt and Margaret (Knighton) McClelland. David grew up in Junction City, Arkansas and was a graduate of Junction City High School, class of 1971 where he met his first wife Cora Lowery. Their union brought them two beautiful daughters, Sonia Denise and Vanessa Lynn McClelland. David also attended the Oil Belt Vocational Technical School in El Dorado, Arkansas where he received his Diploma in Basic Auto Mechanics June 30, 1972. He later moved miles away to the city life in 1974 to North Chicago, Illinois. While moving around Lake County he ended up in Waukegan, Illinois where he met his beloved wife Marilyn Diaz. Their union brought them a handsome son, David Alexander McClelland and two wonderful stepchildren, Natalie Catrisse and Emilio "Pito" Fret. David gave his life to the Lord at an early age in Junction City, AR. He later joined Trinity Christian Center in Zion, IL serving in the Mens Ministry. David had been a faithful servant of the Lord until his death. He worked for Jewel Foods over 30 years as a Co-Manager and held other varies roles. After his departure from Jewel in 2007 he began his entrepreneurships into various home businesses and the McClelland & Son vending service. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, Bible study, hunting, fishing, and carpentry. David leaves to cherish his legacy: wife of 14 years, Marilyn McClelland of Waukegan, IL; Children: Sonia (Shawn) Starks of Zion, IL, Vanessa L. McClelland and David McClelland of Waukegan, IL; Stepdaughter: Natalie Fret of DeKalb, IL; Stepson: Emilio "Pito" (Alice) Fret of Oak Harbor, WA; and Three grandchildren: Deja and Darnell Starks of Zion, IL, and Anthony Williams of DeKalb, IL; Mother: Mrs. Margaret "Big Momma" McClelland of Junction City, AR; Three sisters: Trudell Newberry of Junction City, AR, Ruthdel Kentle of Pine Bluff, AR, and Margaret Ann (Willie) Drisdom of Los Angeles, CA; Three brothers: Ted (Diane) McClelland of North Chicago, IL, James (Flossie) McClelland of Houston, TX and Charles (Alicia) McClelland of El Dorado, AR; Aunt: Jessie Mae Pryor of Pine Bluff, AR and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. David was preceded in death by his father Roosevelt "Big Daddy" McClelland. David will always be remembered as an adoring husband, loving father, devoted grandfather, and an encourager to many. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 27th at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL 60099, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. for family only and 6:00 to 8:00 open to the public.
