Obituary of Ernestine Powers

Ernestine "Tiny" Powers, 84, a long time resident of Zion, and formerly of Winthrop Harbor, passed away on Monday, May 10, 2010, at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan. Tiny was born December 26, 1925, in Choctaw County, MS, and married Lester Powers on August 2, 1943 in St. Louis, MO. She was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church in Zion. Tiny was a long time employee of the former Bicket's Pharmacy in Zion. She finally retired from Shiloh Park School in Zion. Tiny was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed quilting and gardening. Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Lester; children, Robert (Sandi) Powers of North Platte, Nebraska, Susan(Joseph) Ware of Ft. Worth, TX, David (Heather) Powers of Bristol, WI, and Deborah (Randy) Zeien of Dale, IL; eleven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Herdliska of Grayslake, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Lucile Qualls; son, Ricky Dale Powers; sister, Nellie Jordan; brother, Billy Qualls; and brothers-in-law, Edward Herdliska and Victor Jordan. Visitation will be Sunday , May 16, 2010 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, May 17, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church, 2935 Sheridan Rd., Zion.. Interment is private for the family. Memorial donations are suggested to either the Memorial United Methodist Church or the American Heart Association.
