Obituary of Florence Dawson Cankar

Florence M. Dawson Cankar Florence M. Dawson Cankar, 91, of Waukegan, formerly of Palatine, IL, and Hammond, IN, died peacefully on Saturday, May 1, 2010, with her family by her side at her home. Florence was born on October 4, 1918, in Chicago and was a member of the Elks #702 in Waukegan. She loved to golf and bowl, along with enjoying gardening, quilting, and playing dominos. Florence was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Survivors include her children, Theo Cheatham and Marv (Cindy) Dawson; step-children, Mary Louise (John) Rottman and Richard Cankar; grandchildren, Jennifer (Steve) Roney, Scott (Dianne) Borg, Dawn Borg, Heather Dawson, Ted Dawson, Michael Dawson, Andrew Dawson, Brain Rottman, Kevin Rottman, Diane (Rob) Pluta, Deanna Cankar, and Jeffrey Cankar; 10 great-grandchildren; beloved son-in-law, Ken Borg; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ted Dawson in July of 1978 and her second husband, Stanley Cankar in February of 2004. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, May 6, 2010, at 7:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL, with Rev. Ron Greene of the North Prairie United Methodist Church of Winthrop Harbor, officiating. Friends may greet the family on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
