Obituary of Benjamin Zimmerman

Benjamin T.R. "Ben" Zimmerman, 82, of Winthrop Harbor, IL, died on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, IL. Ben was born December 20, 1929, in Pittsburgh, PA. He married Lue Zentz in Waukegan, IL. He retired from the United States Army as a 1st Sgt after 231/2 years of service. Ben then retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Waukegan after a 31 year career. He had past memberships with the Zion Moose Club, the American Legion in Waukegan, and the Swedish Glee Club in Waukegan. His favorite hobby was reading. Survivors include his wife, Lue; children, John (Paula) Zimmerman of Kauai, Hawaii, Patricia Zimmerman of Kennesaw, GA, Patrick (Shelly) Zimmerman of Grayslake, IL, Belinda Shogren of Winthrop Harbor, IL, Janice Zimmerman of Grayslake, IL, Brenda (Eric) Schwartz of Woodstock, IL, Thomas Zimmerman of Minneapolis, MN, Dennis Zimmerman and Linda Zimmerman, both of Madsion, WI; grandchildren, Jeremiah (Christina), Joshua, Zachariah, Brian, Derek, Isabelle, Lila, Owen, Evan, Carter, and Avery; sister, Joyce (Elmer) Eyler of Whittier, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin F. and Isabel Zimmerman. Visitation will be Friday, April 20, 2012, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL. An interment service with military honors will be held on Monday, April 23,2012, at 1:30 p.m. at Pineview Memorial Park, 10750 W. Beach Rd., Beach Park, IL.
