Obituary of Stanley Schmidt

Stanley L. "Pete" Schmidt, 91, of Zion went to be with his Lord on July 16, 2009. Stanley was born July 8, 1918 in Zion and was a life long resident of Zion. He married Ruth Littner on October 29, 1938. Stanley was a pastor of Russell Community Church in Russell, IL., and the Zion Revival Center in Zion, IL . He was a founding member of the Christian Business Mens Connections. Earlier in his life he worked at North Shore welding in Zion, and later he worked with the union #1693 as a Millwright. Stanley had a passion for baking and loved sharing his well known oatmeal cookies with family and friends. Stanley is survived by his children Glena (Jim) TeVogt, Barbara Patty, Stanley (Ellen) Schmidt Jr., Lawrence R. (Pamela) Schmidt, Vicki (Michael) Barry, Debra (Richard) Pedersen, Mary Lou (Nick) Lloyd; 21 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth; son-in-law Jeffery Peacy; his parents and 10 brothers and sisters. A visitation will be held Tuesday, July 21, 2009 from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd. Zion. A funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. Interment will be private for the family.
