Obituary of Gordon Winer
Gordon H. "Gordy" Winer, 66, of Waukegan, died on Thursday, April 16, 2009 at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan.
Gordy was born April 21, 1942 in Grand Blanc, Michigan. Following High School in Grand Blanc he joined the United States Navy in 1961 and traveled extensively, retiring after 20 years in 1981. He then went to work for the Department of Defense, retiring from Civil Service in 1998. He was a member of AMVETS Post 35 of Waukegan. Gordy was an avid golfer, having played on several leagues at Orchard Hills. Throughout the years he was credited with having two "holes-in-one" to his name. He was also an avid Detroit Lions fan.
Survivors include his wife, Linda; children, Kathy McLean of Davison, Michigan, Cendy Winer of Mt. Morris, Michigan, Camille (Raymond) Anderson of Zion, Kristine (Harold) Delara of Antioch and Robbie Carl of Waukegan; seven grandchildren, Christopher, Alicia, Kelsey, Allie, Jessica, Jasmine and Jordan; one great-granddaughter, Lily; and siblings, Herbert (Charlotte) Lake of Atlanta, Michigan, Norman (Cindy) Lake of Mt. Morris, Michigan, John (Julie) Raymond of Mesick, Michigan, Jacqueline (LeRoy) Beauregard of St. Ignace, Michigan, Terry (Deby) Lake of Gaylord, Michigan and Roger (Nancy) Lake of Kenosha, Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Wayne Moose; one brother, Clyde "Mick" Lake Jr.; and his parents, Clyde A. and Virginia M. Lake.
A visitation will be held on Monday, April 20, 2009, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, with private cremation to follow. Memorial donations to AMVETS Post #35, Waukegan, Illinois, have been suggested.
