Obituary of Elma Tienhaara
Elma E. Tienhaara, 90, formerly of Gurnee, died on Saturday, November 8, 2008 at the home of her granddaughter in Denver, CO.
Elma was born January 30, 1918 in South Range, MI. She was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Waukegan where she was active in the St. Mark's Senior group and the Church Choir. In February of 1993 she was Chairperson for the Augustana Center Children's Benefit. In May of 1994 she received honorable mention at the Twelfth Annual Recognition of Outstanding Seniors event for her work with the local Senior Citizens Group and in May of 1995 she received an award from that same group for her involvement as President of the St. Mark's Senior Citizens Group and for her work with PADS, collecting clothing items for the homeless. For many years she was also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda (Doug) Weatherwax of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Erika Weatherwax of Denver, CO, Angie (Joe) Pendry; and great-grandchildren, Jay and Casey of Vienna, VA and Jessica (Chuck) Miller and great-grandchildren, Wesley and Miles of Erie, CO, David (Kori) Tienhaara and great-grandchild, Aaron of Trevor, WI, Michael Tienhaara of Winthrop Harbor, IL, Sarah (Steve) Cole and great-grandchildren, Tallon and Tanner of Trevor, WI, Rachel Tienhaara and great-grandchild, Kellan McHugh of Trevor, WI, Andrew Tienhaara of Zion, IL, Matthew Tienhaara and great-grandchild, Bayleigh of Trevor, WI, Becky Tienhaara of Kenosha, WI, and Mary Tienhaara of Zion, IL.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Weikko; one son, Wayne; brother, Reino Lehto, and her parents, Yalmer and Margaret Lehto.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 15th 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3350 N. Delany Road, Waukegan, IL, with Pastor Jeffrey Koth officiating. Interment will follow at North Shore Garden of Memories, North Chicago. Visitation will be Saturday, November 15th, from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church have been suggested.
