I thank you and this solider for giving all you gave to make our freedom truly free! I just wanted to share with you that I feel the loss of your son. It just broke my heart to hear the story on the T.V. only to realize that your son was a hero to us all and served his country with pride. I feel the pain your feeling and I wanted to let you know I am praying for your family at this time. My sons served in the Military and I know how proud you must be of him. He is truly a hero and will not be forgotten for what he has done for us all. I know he is looking down from Heaven as a Angel after the rest of those men that he was with. That is how he will be remembered. He was always looking over the guys he was with. God bless you all and my prayers and my heart is with you at this time. Dawn Jensen

To the family, and especially mother, of John Penich, My thoughts and prayers are with you through this difficult time. No words can convey the depth of loss you must feel. I do not know you personally, but we belong to that same terrible club ~ we've lost our sons to the service of our country. Our sons were in different circumstances, to be sure, but I invite you to contact me via Congdon's if you need to talk to someone who understands as only another mother can.

Dear Penich Family and all who grieve John- There are never words adequate enough to give relief or understanding as to why things like this happen. But it is with my utmost empathy that I write you now. Please accept my most heartfelt sympathies in the tragic loss of John. I hope time will pass quickly to speed the healing of your hearts. I was only privelaged to meet John briefly, but with everything I have read recently and with everything I have heard about him, He left us doing what he truly believed in. He paid a sacrifice for us so that we would be safe and be able to enjoy the freedoms and rights we currently do. It is a selfless act and a very brave one to don the uniform. And all to often, the ultimate sacrifice is paid. John deserves our respect, and our thanks. Therefore it will be my honor and my duty to ride with the Patriot Guard on Tuesday to pay a fitting tribute to this brave young man. We need to carry his memory with us, to keep him alive in our hearts. But also to understand more clearly just how precious life is and how important the rights he died to protect are. I know he has not stopped with his duty, he is now standing watch over us from above. Gods speed John, may you enjoy eternal peace. And your welcome to ride on my shoulder anytime!
