Obituary of Catherine Stried

Catherine T. Stried, a long time resident of Zion, IL, went to be with her Savior, on Thursday, March 15, 2012, at the age of 92, in the presence of her family. Catherine was born in 1919 to William and Flossie (Baker) Handyside who came to Zion in search of a deeper walk with God under Dr. Dowie's ministry. At the age of 14, she accepted Jesus as her Savior and devoted her entire life to him. Catherine worked for Zion Industries and the Candy Factory and in 1939 married the love of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Charles Stried Sr. They had a wonderful, full life together, traveling and raising a beautiful family. Survivors include two children living in the area, Charles (Waiva) Stried Jr. and Connie Bruss; 6 grandchildren, Roland Melander, Cindy Graham, Dianna Stried, Ryan (Megan) Bruss, Karl (Emma) Bruss, and Christine (Mike) Cowen; 9 great-grandchildren, Lora (Brad) Shekell, Max Vador, Rhiannon Graham, Rebecca, Abigail, Meah, and Katelyn Cowen; Elianna and Andrew Bruss; 1 great-greatgrandchild, Chloe Shekell; and a close niece, Shirley Hill of Texas. Also preceding in her death are her 2 brothers, Bud and Bill Handyside; 4 sisters, Evelyn Connelly, Buelah Griffith, Gladys Kysar, and Marg Treber; and her beloved daughter, Susanne. Catherine made a great impact on her friends and family as she lived a Godly example. She touched each individual family member by helping many through very tough times. Catherine will be remembered for her love and Godly advice. She loved her Lord and her family. Catherine, Mom, Grandma, you will be greatly missed. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, March 25, 2012, at 4:00 p.m. at Christian Assembly of God, 2929 Bethel Blvd, Zion, Il, with Pastor Ken Fielding, officiating. Interment will be private for the family.
