Obituary of Walter Stapleton

Walter William Stapleton, 76, of Waukegan, IL, died on August 29, 2014, at Advocate Condell Hospital, Libertyville, IL. Walter was born November 8, 1937, in North Lake, WI, and became a Waukegan resident in 1970. He was a Viet Nam War Veteran. Walter retired from the United States Air Force as a Staff Sergeant and then worked at Great Lakes Naval Base as a computer operator. He was a member of the Winthrop Harbor VFW and the Moose Club. Survivor include his children, John (Michele) Stapleton of Kenosha, WI, Joseph (Cathy) Stapleton of Waukegan, IL, Denise (Jason) Hardt of Waukegan, IL, and Courtney (Keith) Stapleton of Waukegan, IL; sisters, Geraldine Drews, Elvira Kopshinsky, Joann (Bob) Webb, and Charlotte Spengler; 12 grandchildren, Annaliza, Cordelle, Anastiza, Keith, La'Kierra, Jessica, Alexis, Jason Jr., Amanda,Caitlin, Justin, and Camille; 2 great-grandchildren, McKenzie and Vanessa; and many nieces and nephews. Walter was preceded in death by a son, Wayne Stapleton; daughter, Sara Sloan; five sisters and one brother; parents, Frances and Theresa Stapleton; and two brothers-in-law. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2014, from 5:00- 8:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL, and again on Friday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 11:00a.m. at the funeral home. Entombment with military honors will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park.
