Obituary of James Evoy
James Edwin Evoy, 76, of Waukegan, died on Thursday, July 31, 2008 at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan.
Jim was born October 11, 1931 and was a lifelong resident of Waukegan. He graduated from Waukegan High School in 1949, attended University of Wisconsin-Madison where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, and received his B.S. in Accounting from Lake Forest College in 1954. After College, he signed on as a Pitcher with the Baltimore Orioles. He completed Spring training but was then called to active duty with the United States Navy.
He was active in the community as President of the Jaycees, was a member of B.P.O.E. Elks and as a two term Commodore of the Waukegan Yacht Club. During his term as Commodore he was instrumental in re-building the Club which had been destroyed by fire. He also served on the Board of the Waukegan Port Authority during the planning and reconstruction of the new Marina.
His professional accomplishments include establishing the firm Evoy, Kamschulte CPA, which later became Evoy, Kamschulte, Jacobs & Co. He semi-retired from the firm in 1996. Throughout his life his passions were his family, boating, flying and golf. Jim was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Choir.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Shirlee (nee Rundquist) Evoy; daughters Janice (Greg) Snelten of Hebron, Illinois, Debbi (Tom) Bosworth of Elmhurst, Illinois, and Kathleen (Dr. Bernard) Gradoville of DesMoines, Iowa; grandchildren Shannon (Gary) Talaga, Andrew and Bradley Bosworth, and Jack and Anne Gradoville; great-grandchildren Damian and Caitlyn; and many cousins and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, W. Stanley and Mae Evoy.
Visitation will be Tuesday, August 5, 2008, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 6th, at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 128 Martin Luther King Drive, Waukegan, Illinois, with Pastor William G. Owen Officiating. Interment will follow at Northshore Garden of Memories, North Chicago, Illinois. Memorial donations to either the American Cancer Society, or, First United Methodist Church, have been suggested.
